The North West Municipalities Association (NWMA) is pleased to offer up to (6) one-thousand-dollar ($1000.00) scholarships in 2026. Application deadline for the first intake is June 30, 2026, application deadline for the second intake is September 30, 2026. Scholarships will be awarded by selection of the Executive.
The program offers graduating grade 12 students, and mature students, living within and/or working in one of the member communities of the NWMA, the opportunity to capture a $1000 scholarship to help fund their post-secondary education which would make the individual eligible to apply to the RMAA or UMAAS Board of Examiners, for a certificate of qualification in Local Government Authority.
The NWMA Scholarship opportunity is available to eligible students enrolling in any of the
compulsory five core courses as established by the University of Regina for the Certificate in Local Government Authority or any course that makes the student eligible to become a
Municipal Administrator. Students who have completed their studies prior to the deadline date of application are ineligible.
NWMA Scholarship opportunities are available to students who meet the following criteria:
- Students must provide confirmation of their enrollment in eligible courses;
- Students must have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership capabilities, and a keen interest and involvement in their rural community;
- Students must submit a completed application form, which includes an essay that outlines why they are or would like to work in municipal government;
- Students may apply multiple times and are eligible to a maximum of $5000.
Please forward the completed application form, along with:
- Two letters of reference from a variety of sources. (Please note letters of reference from parents, guardians, or relatives will not be accepted.)
- A certified statement of your most recent academic marks.
- Attach an essay, no greater than 1000 words, indicating why you wish to be involved in Municipal Government.
