WATERWORKS RATE POLICY

September 4, 2025, the Village of Loon Lake Council passed bylaw 02-2025 a Bylaw to Fix the Rates to Be Charged for the Use and Consumption of Water and to Fix the Rates to be Charged by Way of Rent or Service Charge for Sewer to increase the Water Treatment Plant Truck Fill Station from $50.00 per 1000 gallons to $54.55 per 1000 gallons.

May 30, 2024, the Village of Loon Lake Council passed bylaw 04-2024 a Bylaw to Fix the Rates to Be Charged for the Use and Consumption of Water and to Fix the Rates to be Charged by Way of Rent or Service Charge for Sewer to charge the Loon Lake Fire Department a flat rate of $200.00 per month for water usage.

December 7, 2023, the Village of Loon Lake Council passed 07-2023 a Bylaw to Fix the Rates to Be Charged for the Use and Consumption of Water and to Fix the Rates to be Charged by Way of Rent or Service Charge for Sewer. This bylaw increased the rate of the deposit from $120 to $160 for new accounts. It also made the $20.00 monthly capital surcharge payable year-round on any property connected to the water/sewer utility regardless of if the service is shut off or not.

June 2, 2022, Council passed a bylaw to increase the month infrastructure fee from $10.00 per month to $20.00 per month to assist with making the Village of Loon Lake’s water/sewer system more sustainable. Any portion of infrastructure fee charged that is not used for capital expenditures will be placed in a utility reserve for future upgrades to water plant and/or water distribution lines. The water rates were increased from $20.00 for the first 1000 gallons to $25.00 for the first 1000 gallons of water and $0.0175 per gallon for any additional water use thereafter were established, as adopted under the Water Bylaw

The objective of the Water Rate Policy 800-01 is that the Village of Loon Lake implement a Reverse Osmosis system to meet the standards of Saskatchewan Environment which was completed.  The policy of the Village of Loon Lake is to ensure the costs of maintaining the water treatment plant are paid by fees charged for the service.

WATERWORKS CAPITAL INVESTMENT STRATEGY

The objective of the waterworks capital investment strategy is to maintain the system to provide safe drinking water to the residents of The Village of Loon Lake.  To cover the cost of future infrastructure the Council may have to increase rates as needed.  Capital plans are being looked at for the future.
